Prayers for Newtown Families

Yesterday, a senseless act of violence took away the most precious gift – the gift of life from so many, including 20 young children, in Newtown, CT, at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

I ask that all who read this please take a moment to lift in prayer the families who lost children and loved ones, the community of Newtown, the staff and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Healing will take a long time and it will not be easy, especially at this time of year. Continue to pray for them regularly.

Dear Jesus, I ask that you walk beside the families who lost children and loved ones and hold them in the palm of your hand. Lead us and guide us in how to comfort them and provide help in any way we can.

Tres Dias Family Potluck Picnic Secuela

It will be the first Fairfield County community picnic in recent years. The plans call for a traditional family-style cookout, with TDFC providing plenty of hamburgers and hot dogs. But the event organizers, the fourth-day team of Duncan Brown and Rich Kelly, emphasize that the picnic will not be so much “potluck” as “pot trust.” “We’ll need the participants to provide all the other picnic stuffs: condiments, plates, cups, plastic ware, desserts, salads, soda, and water, as well as games, instruments, lawn chairs, and blankets,” Duncan reported at the annual meeting. “And we trust God that they will.”

Women’s 95 Weekend Postponed

Due to the storm and power issues persisting at the NSLC and the town of Monroe, Women’s 95 has been postponed. Once a new date has been determined, this will be relayed.

Of Many Colors

Praise God for the sunny days that drench the trees as the leaves start to change colors and the harvest begins. Bright orange pumpkins and deep red apples remind us of decolores. The Men’s Weekend #95 is upon us, followed by Women’s #95 in November. Keep these teams and the candidates that God will send in prayer. Be prepared to support the weekends by serving, praying, and coming to the closings to help the candidates transition back in to the world.God is depending on you!

The Long, Hot Days of Summer

While we are all enjoying the summer sun, teams have begun gathering together to prepare for the Fall. Men;s Weekend #95 will be in October, followed by Women’s 95 in November. While you sit by the pool or in the shade at the baseball field, give a thought or two to inviting one or more of your friends to experience a Tres Dias weekend, or if they have, to fill out a biography to serve on team. What better way to share the warmth? Have a joyous and fun-filled Summer and spread the word that great things are happening.

President Addresses Tres Dias Community

Sounds official, doesn’t it? Well, the president is Gordon Quimby who heads up our community here in Fairfield County, Ct. He had our attention yesterday afternoon as we gathered together to greet the newest members of the growing Tres Dias community, the Wonderful Women of Weekend #93. But before we sponsors, friends and relatives had a chance to welcome them, Gordon reminded us that the real value of Tres Dias goes way beyond the weekend. The blessing we share is our growth as lay leaders within our own churches and communities. That was what happened again as lay leaders and spiritual directors came together in love and ran a retreat. They didn’t do it alone, by any means. “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” – Matthew 18:20.

One of the things we learn by serving on team is that it is not about us, and listening to the women tell of their experiences filled our hearts, minds and eyes with renewed joy for them and for all who will encounter them today and every day as they move forward in their walk. Our Lord does amazing things when we come together in His name, so come. Your chance to meet these women is at the Secuela at New Life Community UMC in New Fairfield, CT this Friday evening. See you there. Directions
